Abstract

This article proposes to evaluate one of the fundamental pillars of sustainable development, namely environmental preservation, based on the quality of education. Thus, from PISA and WDI data, it aims to analyze the relationship between the quality of education and environmental preservation. Regressions by Ordinary Least Squares and Double Least Squares methods show that the quality of education deteriorates the environment and the effect is more perverse when the emphasis is put on scientific production, especially mathematics and science. On the other hand, reading does not have a perverse effect on the environment. These results show that the threshold of acceptance would be the secondary level, which favors the preservation of the environment. Beyond high school, the effect of education becomes perverse on the preservation of the environment.
