Abstract
For nearly 50 years, our ways of production and consumption have exerted increasing pressure on natural resources, the climate and biodiversity. The great environmental and social challenges that we have been facing for about 50 years are forcing companies to radically rethink the classic model of business economic development, based on linearity, where the resources produced are used and at the end of use are thrown away, creating waste on the planet. Since the disproportionate consumption of oil, natural gas, minerals, wood, water, food resources, etc. has increased a lot in the last fifty years, due to the improvement of our living standards and the growth of the population, it is necessary to change course to save the planet. There is no planet B. At this point, the circular economy represents the turning point, taking on the characteristics of a new paradigm, which is progressively affirming itself at all levels and in all geographical areas. Companies must therefore innovate towards a new paradigm such as that of sustainability, to protect the environment; they can do so only by adopting the circular economy model which involves the recycling phase. The essay we are going to develop demonstrates how by contextualizing the ecological and digita transition path, we can certainly obtain a model validated solution for companies that want to establish themselves in a more competitive way, combining innovation and environmental sustainability.
