Abstract

This article is devoted to the study of 256 statistical series providing annual consumption amounts by expenditure category, according to the national accounts field, for different income deciles. The population concerned consists of French households in 2017. An economic analysis of food and non-alcoholic beverage consumption is proposed. The question of significant correlation or decorrelation between these series is addressed. Next, an index inspired by the Gini index is used to analyze the impact of income inequalities on consumption items. This highlights the possibility of measuring whether consumption items are classified as essential, secondary or status goods. Finally, a new statistical concept is proposed, that of peaks, and its implementation is carried out for the series studied.
