Abstract

The first issue of Volume 4 of the International Journal of Neurology (1963) was dedicated to the motor and premotor areas of the brain. It began with the Chairman’s Address and an article reflecting on John Fulton’s influential role in the development of neurological sciences. The issue included comparative studies on localization in precentral and supplementary motor regions, analyses of the premotor syndrome and its relationship to extrapyramidal symptoms, and discussions on goal-directed control mechanisms affecting both motor and sensory systems. Further contributions examined the influence of postural set on movement patterns, the motor systems involved in convulsive activity, and the overall organization of motor functions. The volume concluded with studies on complex motor responses to cortical stimulation and a news section summarizing current developments in neurology.
