Abstract

The digital economy is changing the way organizations manage their human resources. New technologies such as digital platforms, HR analytics, automation and online workforce systems are slowly reshaping human resource functions across Indian organizations. This paper aims to study how human resource systems are being reconfigured in the digital economy through technology-enabled workforce management practices. The study is descriptive in nature and is based only on secondary data. Data have been collected from published research articles, government reports, policy documents, NITI Aayog publications, economic surveys and other reliable secondary sources related to digital transformation and human resource management in India. The paper analyses major trends in digital HR practices such as e-recruitment, digital training, performance management systems and data-supported decision making. It also examines the opportunities created by technology adoption, including efficiency, transparency and improved employee engagement. At the same time, the study highlights key challenges faced by Indian organizations, such as skill gaps, infrastructure limitations, data privacy concerns and uneven technology adoption across sectors. The findings suggest that while technology-enabled HR systems are gaining importance, their adoption is gradual and uneven. The paper concludes that a balanced and inclusive approach is required to reconfigure human resource systems in the digital economy. The study provides useful insights for academicians, managers and policymakers interested in understanding digital transformation in human resource management.
