Human resource management in a digital age from the perspective of next generation hr managers

Abstract

The digital transformation of Human Resource Management (HRM) within organizations enables this function to surpass other support roles. This change is reshaping how the value of HRM is perceived, while also establishing its importance in organizations. This exploratory research aims to examine the views of undergraduate HRM students regarding HRM in the digital age (research question: what are the perceptions of HRM undergraduates about HRM in a digital era?). The study's contribution lies in understanding how future HR managers view the evolving roles of HRM within the digitally advanced workforce they will join. A qualitative research approach was utilized, involving two focus groups of 20 participants each for two hours. The key finding indicates that HRM undergraduates recognize that HRM not only maintains traditional roles but also performs them more effectively, efficiently, productively, and flexibly, thanks to their proficiency in technology and HR analytics. This study presents several implications and recommendations for organizations and higher education institutions.
