Abstract

Introduction: the relationship between nursing working hours and quality of care in surgical services is a critical area of research in contemporary nursing management.Method: a bibliographic review was carried out using scientific articles indexed in databases such as PubMed, Scopus, and SciELO, published between 2010 and 2023.Results: evidence indicates that excessive workloads, extended shifts, and inadequate staffing ratios directly impact patient safety, increasing the risk of medication errors, adverse events, and decreased care quality. Conclusions: the regulation of nursing working hours and the establishment of appropriate staffing ratios are fundamental strategies to guarantee safe, quality care in surgical services.
