Fixed partial prosthesis in patients with aesthetic dental alterations

Introduction: In recent years, aesthetics has acquired a fundamental role in dentistry, becoming one of the main reasons for patient consultations. Various treatments are available to meet the aesthetic and functional needs of each individual. Objective: To characterize fixed partial denture (FPD) treatments used in patients with dental aesthetic alterations. Methods: An observational, descriptive, and cross-sectional study was conducted on patients who attended the Prosthodontics Service of the "Antonio Briones Montoto" Dental Clinic in Pinar del Río, during the period 2023-2025. Population: 542 patients rehabilitated with partial dentures. Sample: A purposive sample, selected by expert judgment, consisting of 438 patients according to established inclusion criteria. The information necessary for the study was obtained from the Prosthodontics Medical Records. Statistical analysis was performed using absolute frequencies, percentages and chi-squared test. Results: Females predominated (69.8%), as did the 35-59 age group (43.4%). 55.8% received treatment with a single-unit, extracoronal acrylic partial denture (PPD). 90% of patients treated with PPDs were very satisfied. Conclusions: PPD treatments in patients with dental aesthetic alterations were common in women and those in their fourth decade of life. Single-unit, extracoronal acrylic restorations were the main treatment option applied, achieving high satisfaction among the patients studied.
