Abstract

El virus del papiloma humano es una de las infecciones de transmisión sexual más comunes y está estrechamente vinculada con el cáncer cervicouterino, una de las principales causas de muerte en mujeres. El objetivo ha sido determinar la asociación entre el nivel de conocimientos y las prácticas preventivas sobre el virus del papiloma humano en estudiantes de nivel superior de las Áreas de Ciencias de la Salud y de Ciencias Sociales y Humanidades de una universidad pública del Estado de Nayarit, México. Estudio cuantitativo, transversal y descriptivo que incluyó a 226 estudiantes universitarios. Para la recolección de datos se utilizaron dos cuestionarios: uno sobre nivel de conocimientos acerca del virus del papiloma humano y otro sobre el nivel de implementación de prácticas preventivas. La mayoría de los estudiantes tiene un nivel de conocimientos bajo sobre el virus del papiloma humano (64.1%) y un nivel medio en prácticas preventivas (63.7%). No se encontró asociación significativa entre el nivel de conocimientos y las prácticas preventivas, aunque se observó una tendencia positiva no concluyente.
