Analysis of nutritional status and its impact on grip strength of secondary school students

Abstract

Late diagnosis is one of the main problems in health matters, constituting a challenge for physical education teachers, who are responsible for promoting an active and healthy lifestyle. Therefore, the general objective is to diagnose health risks related to nutritional status and grip strength in students aged 12 to 16 years in Educational District 0805. This is a quantitative, descriptive, cross-sectional study. The population consisted of 11,983 adolescents. Simple random sampling was used, processing a sample of 746 students. The data collection instruments used were: a CAMRY EK5055 digital scale, a 1 mm precision dry-wall height rod, and a Camry EH101 digital dynamometer. The results of this study indicate a significant increase in grip strength from age 13, and that, from age 14, BMI is significantly correlated with grip strength. In conclusion, these findings provide valuable insights into physical development in adolescence and underscore the importance of understanding the dynamic relationships between age and muscular capabilities during adolescence.
