Abstract

Global trends in environmental determinants have been highlighted in recent years by the accelerated processes of contaminants that have directly influenced vector-borne diseases, without leaving behind the inhabitants of the eastern zone of El Salvador. Objective: to determine the influence of environmental hygiene and solid and liquid wastes on vector-borne diseases. Method: quantitative approach, of explanatory scope addressing quasi-experimental variables in a sample of 340 homes where a questionnaire, a checklist and personalized education were applied. Results: lack of knowledge about the vectors that produce environmental contamination, inhabitants consuming water of an unacceptable color, people satisfying their physiological needs in the open air; 36.47% of the population lacks toilet train service, 21.76% have become ill by consuming water from their community and several people suffer from pathologies such as myiasis that are not recorded in the epidemiological reports. Conclusion: there is a lack of environmental commitment on the part of the inhabitants and institutions by not complying with environmental and health care regulations; therefore, environmental determinants are influencing vector diseases.
