Invisible Intersectional Vulnerability: Sexualized Violence and Disability

Vulnerability is no defining characteristic of People with disabilities. The intersection of a variety of variables defines the level of vulnerability and risk to suffer some type of violence and especially sexualized violence. This paper is based on the theory of intersectionality to present a theoretical analysis of how those external variables define people with disabilities outside of the norm, and so, keep them from enjoying their status as a person. Variables like gender, capitalism, access to education, health services, labor markets, emotional and financial independency, interculturality, occurring simultaneously, create new realities people with disability must affront, and affect the level of vulnerability to suffer some type of violence. Backing the social vision of disabilities, the article claims that the disability lies within the exclusive context which is dehumanizing people with disabilities.
