Decolonial Epistemologies and Transcomplexity in Latin American Organizational Studies

This article examines the integration of decolonial and transcomplex approaches in organizational studies in Latin America and the Caribbean, aiming to rethink the theoretical and methodological foundations of the field. Through a systematic review of academic literature from the past five years, emerging trends reveal a growing interest in adopting decolonial perspectives in organizational research. The findings highlight a predominance of qualitative studies that challenge traditional management approaches imported from the Global North, proposing instead epistemologies rooted in local knowledge and regional experiences. Transcomplexity provides a theoretical framework to understand organizations as adaptive complex systems interconnected with their social, cultural, and ecological contexts. The study identifies a geographic diversity in academic production, concentrated mainly in Brazil, Mexico, and Argentina, while the Caribbean and Central America remain underrepresented. Finally, opportunities are identified to expand research on the intersection of decoloniality and transcomplexity, suggesting that this approach can contribute to the development of more relevant and contextualized organizational theories for the region.
