Zoonotic tuberculosis in a pediatric patient in Chile: a call to action from a One Health perspective

Abstract

This article presents a pediatric clinical case of extrapulmonary tuberculosis caused by Mycobacterium bovis in Santiago, Chile, treated using the One Health approach. The patient, with persistent cervical adenopathy and a diagnosis confirmed by PCR and culture, was treated with a standard antituberculosis regimen and monitored for 23 months. This study highlights the importance of interdisciplinary human and veterinary collaboration for the effective control of zoonotic tuberculosis and emphasizes the need to implement public policies and education on safe dairy consumption.
