Health status of UNAN-Managua teaching and administrative staff

The well-being of workers in public universities is a key factor for the effective functioning of these institutions. The study aimed to analyze the health status of teaching and administrative staff at the National Autonomous University of Nicaragua, UNAN-Managua. This analysis was based on the results of periodic and/or pre-employment medical check-ups conducted during the years 2021, 2022, and 2023. A deductive, descriptive, and longitudinal approach was applied, with a sample of 630 workers. Primary data were taken from the consolidated general results of the medical examinations conducted on the workers. The processing and analysis of data were conducted using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences version 25.0 (SPSS). It was found that medical examinations demonstrate pathological deviations in the results of hematological function, liver function, lipid profile, electrocardiogram, spirometry, and spinal radiography, among others. The primary diagnoses include overweight, obesity grades I and III, hypertension, and hearing impairment. The level of occupational impact according to pathological results predominantly shows mild conditions. In conclusion, there is a significant relationship between periodic functional medical examinations and the level of worker impairment, indicating that modifications in clinical examinations directly influence job performance and, consequently, the health of workers.
