From prejudice to emancipation: Social psychology, Dominican identity and Fanon's thought

This study analyzes how racial prejudice influences the configuration of social and national identity in the Dominican Republic, a country marked by its colonial heritage. It proposes a critical dialogue between Frantz Fanon's Black Skin, White Masks, Josefina Zaiter's studies on Dominican identity and the contributions of critical social psychology (Munné, Montero and Martín-Baró). The research is qualitative, with a documentary and hermeneutic-critical design. Bibliographic analysis and theoretical-discursive contrast were used as instruments. The methodological strategy included interdisciplinary articulation and dialogic analysis. The results show an identity construction based on the denial of Afro-descendence, generating an internalized racial prejudice. Fanon and Zaiter agree that liberation requires a political, psychological and cultural transformation, which in turn requires a historical memory. It is concluded that it is necessary to address racism from a critical and decolonial perspective that claims a plural, just and emancipatory national identity.
