Fuentes estadisticas y produccion pesquera en España (1880–1936): una primera aproximacion

Abstract

El primer problema que se plantea al intentar evaluar el crecimiento del sector pesquero a lo largo del período 1880–1936 es la ausencia de datos estadísticos continuos y homogéneos. Aunque la primera estadistica de pesca data en España de 1829, no sera hasta el último tercio del siglo cuando los datos comiencen a ser mínimamente coherentes. Entre 1880 y 1936 se publicaron, completas o resumidas, veintisiete estadísticas, casi todas —veinticuatro— referentes al siglo XX, lo que nos deja prácticamente sin información para finales del Ochocientos. Esta penuria de datos se podría compensar con un análisis comparativo por años, pero, lamentablemehte, esto sólo es posible para los conceptos más generales, dada la diversidad de criterios utilizados según las épocas para la elaboración de las estadísticas. En efecto, cada reorganización de los servicios pesqueros trajo consigo cambios en la forma de elaborar los estados de pesca, hasta el punto que, atendiendo a este criterio, se pueden distinguir perfectamente tres etapas en la confección de la estadística pesquera:
