Abstract

En la mayoría de los estudios sobre la emigración española aparece implícita o explícitamente mencionado el hecho de la deficiente calidad de las estadísticas de la emigración española. Ello ha supuesto en muchos casos un freno a la investigación. En palabras de Sánchez-Albornoz,al consultar los documentos, los historiadores han solido tropezar con grandes discrepancias y defectos en los números disponibles. Ha cundido, en consecuencia, una desconfianza a priori sobre los datos. Dúdase de poder alcanzar una base cuantitativa firme sobre la cual la explicación histórica necesita asentarse.
