Economias intermedias: Ecija a mediados del siglo XVIII

Abstract

El presente trabajo pretende, aprovechando la magnífica información facilitada por la documentación del Catastro de la Ensenada, aproximarse al estudio de un terreno poco trabajado hasta hoy, como es el de las economíes intermedias del Antiguo Régimen. Centrándose en Ecija, cabeza de una rica región agrícola —la Campiña—, analiza el papel que juegan en su economía la agricultura, el artesanado y el sector servicios, intentando demostrar la existencia de un grado intermedio entre una economía rural y otra urbana, hecho posibilitado por encontrarnos en un núcleo considerablemente poblado, con las necesidades, por tanto, de una ciudad, pero centrado en una zona eminentemente agrícola y con una existencia basada en la explotación de la tierra.
