Respuesta de Miriam Halpern Pereira a la reseña de su libro por Gabriel Tortella

Abstract

Gabriel Tortella tuvo la cortesía de solicitar mi respuesta a su recensión crítica. Tuve que huir de la tentación de dejar que los lectores compararan la recensión con el propio libro y me dispuse a redactar estas breves aclaraciones. Me estimula a responder la consideración que me merecen los trabajos de Gabriel Tortella, en especial Los orígenes del capitalismo en España, libro que destaca en relatión con otros por su perspectiva global de la España de la segunda mitad del siglo xix y que cuando se publicó constituyó un paso pionero en el planteamiento de un problema fundamental: la función de los ferrocarriles en el desarrollo económico de ese país. Pero hay otra razón que también me incita a responder a Tortella, y ésa es el debate ideológico en que se inserta su apreciación crítica.
