Abstract

Emerging contaminants in wastes represent a significant challenge facing waste management and environmental security. The most commonly followed treatment is incineration, which has proven its efficacy for volume reduction and breakdown of hazardous substances. Despite the efficiency of incineration, the thermal breakdown of emerging contaminants is essentially more complex and is strongly based on complex reaction mechanism; under suboptimal conditions, they can evolve harmful by-products. This paper takes in core principles of thermal decomposition and emerging contaminates decomposition by the pathways as a means of throwing some light on the aspect of how the process may be efficient with respect to the parameters of operations. It then goes ahead to detail advanced analysis techniques, computational modeling techniques, and new directions on matters of waste incineration technologies that cover a comprehensive range of deconstruction pathways, environmental concerns notwithstanding.
