Abstract

An environmentally sustainable and time-efficient protocol has been established for the synthesis of substituted Schiff bases through microwave-assisted, solvent-free condensation of aromatic aldehydes with primary aromatic amines. The methodology employs potassium carbonate as a mild, inexpensive, and eco-friendly base catalyst. Microwave irradiation significantly accelerates the reaction, reducing reaction times from several hours under conventional conditions to only a few minutes, while affording high product yields. The absence of organic solvents and corrosive catalysts highlights the green character of this approach. The synthesized compounds were characterized by melting point determination, FT-IR, and 1H-NMR spectroscopy. High atom economy values (>91%) further confirm the sustainability of the developed protocol.
