Abstract

The paper approaches the specific aspects of drug addiction treatment in detention facilities, surveying the treatment principles used worldwide. Since it is important to provide equal opportunities for the inmates to treat their drug addiction, the paper shows the progresses achieved in Romania by the establishment of therapeutic communities in penitentiaries for the drug addicted convicts. It also describes aspects regarding the evaluation and inclusion of the inmates in drug addiction treatment supplied through the therapeutic communities within the detention facilities.
