Abstract

In the last decade and especially after 2020, major changes have taken place in the consumption behavior but also in the level of life satisfaction of the population from Romania. This study analyzes some recent developments in the national consumption model, discussing the extent to which material living conditions influence the degree of life satisfaction - knowing that, for over a decade, Romania has recorded the highest poverty rates in the European Union but also a particularly high level of life satisfaction of the population. The study proposes some social policies aimed at alleviating the particular difficulties in the lives of economically disadvantaged population categories. In the context, comments based on the author's calculations are presented, but also, are used for argumentation, data published by Eurostat, the National Institute of Statistics from Romania, FAO, the National Bank of Romania etc.
