Financing of the regional policy and of the cohesion policy in the European union through structural instruments

Abstract

The European Union established a long-term process for the development and implementation of comprehensive measures in its regional and cohesion policies. The involved structural instruments became drives for sustainable socio-economic development. The structural funds allocated to Romania for 2007-2013 are part of the convergence policy of the European Union. However, the experience showed that the new member states have difficulties in absorbing these funds. Within this context it is important to predict the impact of these funds on the Romanian society. The lag of expertise in using the structural funds compared to the countries which accessed the European Union in 2004, should prompt increased efforts in Romania to make more efficient the measures that are applied.
