Exportaciones de servicios: tendencias globales y perspectivas para Chile

Abstract

Este artiÌ culo analiza la relación entre servicios y desarrollo económico, la evolución del comercio internacional de servicios y su relevancia para Chile. En los paiÌ ses en desarrollo, los servicios han generado alrededor de la mitad del crecimiento del PIB y dos tercios de la creación de empleos durante las últimas tres décadas. A su vez, la digitalización ha aumentado la comerciabilidad de los servicios a nivel internacional. Las exportaciones de servicios representan entre un 25% y un 40% de las exportaciones globales, según se consideren los flujos de exportaciones brutos o ajustados. Estas exportaciones muestran un rápido crecimiento en los paiÌ ses en desarrollo, presentando nuevas oportunidades para diversificar la actividad económica. En el caso de Chile, la contribución de las exportaciones de servicios es inferior a lo observado en otros paiÌ ses de la OCDE, mientras que tampoco sobresale en el contexto sudamericano. A su vez, las exportaciones de servicios chilenas han perdido momentum en los últimos años, incluso al compararse con otros paiÌ ses intensivos en recursos naturales.
