Abstract

Los Estados industrializados del mundo se han visto constantemente envueltos en carreras armamentistas, la invención del aeroplano y su posterior adecuación con fines bélicos generó que se comenzara a contemplar el cielo como un nuevo escenario de la guerra. La eficiencia de las aeronaves en el campo de batalla fue puesta a prueba en la Primera y la Segunda Guerra Mundial, allí se hizo evidente el potencial destructivo de estas máquinas y desde entonces los países desarrollados se han preocupado por disenar y producir cazas poderosos, capaces de disuadir al enemigo o de llevar a cabo exitosas tareas de defensa y ataque; la evolución de estos se ha dado en un ambiente muy competitivo que, aún hoy, sigue incentivando la industria militar mundial y, sin lugar a duda, el desarrollo de cazas de quinta generación es prueba de este fenómeno.
