Características, determinantes e impacto de las exportaciones en Colombia : resultados a nivel de firma

Abstract

Este estudio discute las características, determinantes e impacto de las exportaciones colombianas, con base en información a nivel de plantas y firmas. Los 1990s pueden caracterizarse como la "década perdida" para las exportaciones colombianas, las cuales disminuyeron drásticamente ante la fuerte revaluación cambiaria de 1990-1998. Esta no solo redujo la relación exportaciones-ventas en las firmas establecidas, sino que también expulsó a muchas firmas de la actividad exportadora con altos costos económicos para el país. Los Estados Unidos son nuestro (crecientemente) principal mercado; Colombia posee un nuevo grupo de exportadores sumamente dinámicos; y nuestras principales ventajas comparativas (también las principales desventajas) se encuentran en el sector agropecuario. Esta evidencia tiene claras implicaciones para el diseno de la estrategia de integración del país. Se muestra, finalmente, que las firmas exportadoras son más dinámicas y eficientes que las no exportadoras, pero la causalidad va de la innovación a la exportación y no a la inversa.
