Costos médicos directos del síndrome de dificultad respiratoria del recién nacido en Colombia

Abstract

Antecedentes: Alrededor de 32% de los recién nacidos prematuros presenta síndrome de dificultad respiratoria -SDR- y continúa siendo la primera causa de morbilidad en estos pacientes. Su manejo involucra gran consumo de recursos y se relaciona con alta morbilidad por complicaciones y secuelas en el periodo neonatal. En Colombia no se dispone de un registro de costos de atención de esta entidad. Este estudio pretende una primera aproximación a la determinación de costos médicos directos del tratamiento hospitalario del SDR. Background: approximately 32% of premature newborns present respiratory distress syndrome (RDS), which is the very first cause of death in these patients. RDS control involves a great amount of resources, and it is related with high mortality and sequels in the neonatal period. Colombia doesn’t count with cost records for this disease. This study presents an approximation of medical costs related to RDS treatment. Objective: estimate direct medical costs from RDS hospital care for premature newborn in Colombia
