Los adultos mayores y su retiro del mercado laboral en México

Abstract

RESUMEN: El artículo tiene como objetivo analizar el proceso de transición de la ocupación a la inactividad o viceversa de la población adulta mayor en México, y las variables que intervienen en dichos cambios. De manera con-creta se estimaron las probabilidades de transición entre cuatro estados: 1) en actividad laboral, 2) pensionado o jubilado, 3) incapacidad permanente y 4) quehaceres del hogar. Se utilizaron datos de panel de la Encuesta Nacional de Ocupación y Empleo. Se estimaron matrices de transición de los cuatro estados para determinar la probabilidad de pasar a cada uno de éstos. Los resultados sugieren una relativa estabilidad de los adultos mayores ocupados. Los hombres tienen el doble de probabilidad que las mujeres de pensionarse o jubilarse, y se percibe el estancamiento de las mujeres en los quehaceres del hogar. El sexo y lugar de residencia influyen negativamente en el retiro de los adultos mayores del mercado laboral
