El ferrocarril de Antioquia: empresarios extranjeros y participación local

Abstract

El propósito de este artículo es mostrar cómo la construcción y operación del Ferrocarril de Antioquia permite analizar, desde el punto de vista de las políticas públicas y de la acción de los empresarios extranjeros, los procesos sociales desde la perspectiva local y regional del Estado. Metodológicamente, se hace uso de fuentes primarias de la época y de bibliografía secundaria desde una perspectiva de historia económica y empresarial, para realizar un contraste de cómo, a pesar de no cumplir con ninguna de las metas propuestas en los contratos firmados inicialmente, el Ferrocarril se convirtió en un símbolo de lo posible y del tránsito a la modernidad.
