Abstract

Durante el viaje de regreso de Las Vegas, Gilberto Rosero analizaba los acontecimientos tratando de encontrar una salida a la situación que se presentaba en su empresa Distribuidora Giro de la cual era Gerente General. Distribuidora Giro (DG), era una distribuidora de bicicletas, repuestos y accesorios que había nacido como el sueno de un ex ciclista, quien animado por el auge que este deporte experimentaba a mediados de los anos ochenta, creó el negocio en Cali, Colombia, en 1988. En sus comienzos DG se dedicaba al ensamble y venta de bicicletas, utilizando cuadros nacionales y componentes importados dadas las condiciones de economía cerrada por las que el país atravesaba. Esto resultaba rentable debido a que los componentes y repuestos de las bicicletas pagaban un arancel y un gravamen más bajos que si se importaran las bicicletas totalmente armadas.
