    Con el interés de revisar las estadísticasde salud perinatal a través delanálisis de la mortalidad, se proponeuna metodología de análisis transferidapor el CDC de Atlanta y adaptadapor el grupo de investigadores deCEMIYA.Esta metodología contempla la fasede gerencia, la conceptualización dela vigilancia epidemiológica y la identificaciónde los actores del sistemageneral de seguridad social de salud,además de utilizar herramientas epidemiológicasdescriptivas (tasas yproporciones) las cuales definen cuantitativamenteel problema.Propone el modelo variables de fácilrecolección contenidas en los registrosvitales de obligatorio diligenciamiento.Por último ilustra las causas básicasy directas de defunción permitiendodefinir intervenciones específicasque apuntan a la solución de losproblemas identificados. El caso permiteque el lector se introduzca en lainstrumentación del modelo con cifrasde su institución o región deacuerdo con los datos disponibles.
