Abstract

En The Great Leveler Scheidel argumenta que, desde la prehistoria hasta nuestros días, la reducción de la desigualdad económica se ha dado exclusivamente como consecuencia de eventos violentos que han reducido las disparidades entre ricos y pobres, al menos de manera temporal. El autor se concentra en cuatro tipos de rupturas violentas: guerras, revoluciones turbulentas, el colapso de civilizaciones y estructuras estatales, y epidemias devastadoras.
