Sir John Hicks a la reconquista de la dicotomía clásica

Abstract

Sir John Hicks, el caballero excelso de la armada bastarda, ha luchado desde 1937 por mostrar que la obra de Keynes, especialmente la Teoría General, no constituyó un rompimiento con el pensamiento tradicional. Gracias a la tenacidad de quien fuera ungido caballero en 1964, la síntesis neoclásica ha logrado sobrevivir a las críticas demoledoras de autores como Leijonhuvfud, Davidson, Weintraub, Uzawa, etc... Pese a que dichos golpes han desfigurado el diagrama IS-LM, blasón característico del escudo bastardo, sus rasgos básicos permanecen incólumes_ El esquema IS-LM es presentado inicialmente por Hicks en 1937_ Posteriormente sufre diversas modificaciones_ Entre ellas, las más importantes, fueron las de 1957 y 1981. A lo largo de este medio siglo Hicks ha consolidado el "método de equilibrio". Su reciente escepticismo frente al modelo original de 1937 no significa que haya renunciado a la lógica neoclásica. Por el contrario, gracias a dicha autocrítica ha sido posible la reconquista de la dualidad real-monetario.
