El Problema Ambiental y el Estilo de Desarrollo

Abstract

La toma de conciencia de la problemática ambiental en el decenio de los sesenta, planteó sorpresivamente la duda sobre la posibilidad de sostener el ritmo de desarrollo alcanzado por los países industrializados. El gigantesco crecimiento de la plataforma tecnológica obtenido durante el presente siglo, pero especialmente desde la última guerra mundial, estaba empezando a encontrar los límites, impuestos por la estructura misma de la vida. Ya Kenneth Boulding, siguiendo las tesis clásicas del malthusianismo económico, había planteado a finales de la segunda guerra mundial la posibilidad de una crisis del desarrollo, puesto que el crecimiento productivo se da en un sistema cerrado de recursos finitos. Sin embargo, las amenazas neomalthusianas de Boulding caen en el vacío del optimismo, planteado por Collin Clark, Rostow y los investigadores del Instituto Hudson.
