El Estado: un ensayo siempre inconcluso

Abstract

Quienes profesan el marxismo están convencidos de que poseen la teoría completa y definitiva de la sociedad capitalista y el instrumento científico para liberar a la clase obrera de los "grilletes que la encadenan".Su poder explicativo, en el ámbito de la naturaleza y economía del capitalismo industrial, aunque limitado, es innegable -sobre todo cuando se lo compara con doctrinas rivales- y algunas de sus percepciones fundamentaleshan sido incorporadas a diversas corrientes del pensamiento contemporáneo.En cambio, como ideología científica al servicio de la emancipación de la clase obrera industrial, ha fracasado rotundamente. Sin excepción, todas las revoluciones populares del siglo XX -incluso las que se han hecho ennombre de cualquiera de sus variantes locales- han ocurrido en países de mayoría campesina, donde las instituciones características de una economía industrial orientada por móviles pecuniarios sólo han tenido un desarrollo incipiente: amplia participación ciudadana, justicia económica de tipo competitivo y crecimiento industrial basado en el descubrimiento y la experimentación. En ninguno de ellos existía una clase obrera industrial amplia y diversificada ejercitada en la lucha por obtener los beneficios del sistema industrialy en todos ellos el poder del estado descansaba en la tradición, el estatus o la fuerza, no en su adaptación a los valores, actitudes y comportamientos que surgen en sociedades urbanas densas, plurales y cambiantes.
