La histéresis en el desempleo colombiano

Abstract

Estudios sobre diversos países muestran que el comportamiento de la tasa de desempleo depende fuertemente de su propia historia y no es explicado fácilmente por el nivel actual de la demanda agregada o por los cambios en la oferta de trabajo. Los modelos tradicionales basados en la curva de Phillips no captan esa dependencia. El concepto de histéresis intenta separar la inercia y el grado de la inercia en la tasa de desempleo, de sus determinantes macroeconómicos. Los resultados, para el caso colombiano, muestran una inercia bastante elevada en los mercados laborales de Bogotá y Medellín, mientras que en Cali y Barranquilla son bastante flexibles. Además, son palpables la ausencia de un efecto de la política monetaria y un impacto regionalmente diferenciado de la inversión y de las exportaciones sobre dicha tasa.
