El estado actual de las investigaciones sobre Antioquia y los antioquenos

Abstract

La importancia de los estudios regionales en el campo de la historia nacional y en el más amplio de las ciencias sociales. El momento histórico contemporáneo parece ser el renacimiento de la idea de región como concepto histórico político y cultural. Se propone realizar un balance de los estudios que se han hecho hasta ahora sobre Antioquia y los antioquenos, realiza una rápida excursión por los más relevantes estudios que algunos han bautizado con el neologismo de antioquenologos". Los primeros en llamar la atención sobre la importancia y la originalidad del caso antioqueno fueron algunos viajeros del siglo XIX, a otros les llamó la atención las virtudes "hommo econonomicus" del paisa. Saffray observó el interés excepcional de las gentes de todos los sectores sociales por los negocios. Rothlisberger los llamó los "yanquis de Colombia" y senaló su aversión a la pobreza. Ferdinand Von Schenck encontró que había gente más rica y emprendedora que en cualquier otra región de Colombia. A comienzos de siglo se ocuparon del caso y de la historia de Antioquia los propios antioquenos: Tulio Ospina, Estanislao Gómez Barrientos, López de Mesa, Álvaro Restrepo Euse y Manuel Uribe Ángel. A partir de los cuarenta el tema comenzó a interesar a historiadores"
