Inwieweit wird Bildung vererbt?

Abstract

Das österreichische Schulsystem ist aufgrund des Abschneidens der österreichischen SchülerInnen bei den internationalen Leistungstests PIRLS und PISA und der neu entfachten Diskussion über die Einführung einer Gesamtschule erneut in den Fokus öffentlicher Berichterstattung gerückt. Fragen über die Schulorganisation werden in der breiten Öffentlichkeit diskutiert. Im Artikel "Wird Bildung vererbt?" wird der Frage nachgegangen, ob anhand der PISA- und Mikrozensus-Daten Aussagen darüber gemacht werden können, inwieweit Bildung vererbbar ist, indem anhand der Datensätze die 15-Jährigen und deren Schulform dem sozioökonomischen Hintergrund ihrer Eltern gegenübergestellt werden. Zur Einordnung des sozioökonomischen Hintergrunds werden die internationalen Klassifikationen ISCED, ISCO und ISEI verwendet. Ausgehend von den Thesen Pierre Bourdieus und John Goldthorpes wird die intergenerationale soziale Mobilität in Österreich anhand der Wahl der Schulform der Kinder in Zusammenhang mit dem sozioökonomischen Status ihrer Eltern analysiert. In den Schlussfolgerungen werden daraus Empfehlungen zur Erhöhung der sozialen Durchlässigkeit des österreichischen Schulsystems abgeleitet.
