Ein Vintage-Datensatz zum ifo Geschäftsklimaindex: Konzept, Methodik und Anwendungen

Abstract

Der ifo Geschäftsklimaindex Deutschland zählt zu den wichtigsten Frühindikatoren für die wirtschaftliche Entwicklung in Deutschland. Er basiert auf den monatlichen ifo Konjunkturumfragen und liefert frühzeitig Hinweise auf konjunkturelle Wendepunkte. Aufgrund seiner hohen Prognosekraft wird der Index sowohl in der wirtschaftswissenschaftlichen Forschung als auch in der Praxis – etwa von Unternehmen, öffentlichen Institutionen und Finanzmarktakteuren – intensiv genutzt. Ein neu zusammengestellter Vintage-Datensatz für den ifo Geschäftsklimaindex enthält nicht nur die aktuell verfügbaren Zeitreihen, sondern sämtliche ursprünglich veröffentlichten Werte seit Januar 2004. Damit wird nachvollziehbar, wie sich die veröffentlichten Daten im Zeitverlauf durch Revisionen verändert haben. Dies eröffnet neue Möglichkeiten für die Echtzeitanalyse, insbesondere für Prognosen, Konjunkturforschung und die Untersuchung von Marktreaktionen. Der Datensatz findet sich auf der ifo Website.
