Der Pillenknick, der keiner war? Zum 65. Jahrestag der Antibabypille

Abstract

Der Rückgang der Geburtenrate in Deutschland lässt sich nicht als eine kausale Folge der Einführung der Antibabypille auslegen. In Westdeutschland sank die Geburtenrate von durchschnittlich 2,45 (1961) auf 1,92 Kinder pro Frau zehn Jahre später, in der DDR fiel sie im Zeitraum nach Einführung der Pille noch stärker – von 2,48 (1965) auf 1,54. Dennoch zeigen die Daten und die Literatur im Vergleich mit anderen europäischen Ländern: Der demografische Wandel setzte bereits vor der Verbreitung des Zugangs zur Pille ein. Auch internationale Studien verweisen vorwiegend auf einen Rückgang von Geburtenzahlen im sehr jungen Alter bei Frauen, finden aber keinen kausalen Zusammenhang der Pilleneinführung mit einer niedrigeren Gesamtfertilität.
