20 Jahre EU-Osterweiterung: Beschäftigte aus den EU-Beitrittsländern in Deutschland

Abstract

Aktuell sind rund 820 000 Arbeitnehmer*innen aus den EU-Beitrittsländern der ersten Runde (2004) in Deutschland tätig; das sind 2,4% aller Beschäftigten hierzulande. Anders als ursprünglich befürchtet wurde, hat dies jedoch nicht zu einer Verdrängung von deutschen Arbeitnehmer*innen am Arbeitsmarkt geführt. Vielmehr sind Personen aus den mittel- und osteuropäischen Beitrittsländern vor allem in Bereichen tätig, die aufgrund niedriger Löhne oder ungünstiger Arbeitsbedingungen für heimische Arbeitskräfte wenig attraktiv sind. Der Beitrag zur Deckung von Arbeitskräfteengpässen in anspruchsvollen Tätigkeiten ist hingegen recht gering.
