Abstract

Die Perspektiven ostdeutscher Städte im europäischen Standortwettbewerb sind Inhalt des Berichtes. Das European Economic Research and Advisory Consortium legt seinen neuen, jährlich erscheinenden Bericht zur Regionalentwicklung in Europa vor. Dieser Bericht enthält mittelfristige Wachstumsprognosen für über 200 europäische Regionen und 36 wichtige Städte bis zum Jahre 1999. Es wird dabei deutlich, daß die europäischen Industrieregionen Verluste aus der Rezession teilweise ausgleichen konnten. Bei den Wachstumsperspektiven liegen Leipzig und Dresden an den ersten beiden Stellen vor Dublin, Berlin, Mailand und Cardiff. Handelszentren wie Hamburg, Rotterdam, Stockholm und Helsinki nutzen ihre Lagegunst durch weitere Projekte zur Verbesserung des Handels. Bei der Betrachtung der mittelfristigen Perspektiven deutscher Städte und Regionen fällt die Dominanz der Regionen in den neuen Bundesländern auf. Thüringen und Sachsen belegen dabei die ersten beiden Ränge vor Brandenburg, Sachsen-Anhalt, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern und Berlin. Erst an siebter Stelle erscheint Schwaben als westdeutsche Region. Für die Bundesländer erwartet man in Bayern und Hessen das höchste Wachstum der Bruttowertschöpfung aller westdeutschen Bundesländer.
