Japan auf dem Weg zur Spitzenposition in der Raumfahrt?

Abstract

Die Raumfahrtaktivitäten Japans haben in der internationalen Öffentlichkeit bisher wenig Beachtung gefunden. Die Entwicklung in diesem Bereich wird aber bereits seit den siebziger Jahren vorangetrieben. Das Raumfahrtbudget 1991 erreichte ein Niveau von 2,2 Mrd. DM. Neben der militärischen Bedeutung sind Erdforschung, Telekommunikation, Erdbeobachtung und Durchführung von Prozessen unter Weltraumbedingungen von großer Wichtigkeit. In Japan wird daher die Raumfahrt als Schlüsseltechnologie eingestuft. Infolge der straffen Planung und hocheffiziente Umsetzung kamen die Japaner in den letzten Jahren mit einem Budget von weniger als 0,04 % des Bruttoinlandsproduktes aus. Hält diese Entwicklung an, dann wird Japan innerhalb der nächsten zehn Jahre eine Spitzenposition in dieser Technologie einnehmen.
