Abstract

The new paradigm of economics built up by Professor Nicholas Georgescu-Roegen has as a central point the Entropy Increase Law and not the Newtonian mechanics, traditional in standard political economics. The moving force of economic life is not represented by the "invisible hand" of the free market mechanism or by the state management of the market, but by the supreme law of entropy stating that the unavailable energy tends constantly to increase, while available energy tends constantly to decrease. The root of economic scarcity lies not only in the limited character of resources, but, also, in the irrevocable entropic degradation
