Abstract

The present paper aims to explore the applicability of cryptocurrencies as settlement tools in international trade operations between companies in the European Union, with a particular focus on Romania. It addresses both the economic potential of blockchain-based payment mechanisms and the accounting implications arising from the lack of unified regulation. The study emphasizes the need for harmonized frameworks, while outlining the advantages, risks, and current limitations companies face when adopting cryptocurrencies in external trade.
