Abstract

Health is a goal of every person, but also of all humanity, at all times. In this material, the main indicators specific to the health system in the European Union in the period 2011-2023 are presented and evaluated. In this regard, we have followed a series of indicators selected from the main categories used in the European Union, as follows: health status (the indicators used are: healthy life years, accident injuries, absence from work due to health problems, etc.), health determinants (the indicators are: body mass index, physical activity, fruit and vegetable consumption, tobacco consumption, alcohol consumption, social environment), health (the main indicators are: health care expenditure by provider, function and financing scheme, health care resources, health care activities in hospitals, use of medicines, etc.), causes of death, health and safety at work. This last category is broken down into subcategories: accidents at work (the indicators are: characteristics of the injured person; characteristics of the injury, including severity; characteristics of the enterprise, including economic activity, etc.), occupational accidents and other workrelated health problems (the indicators studied are: accidents at work, work-related health problems, exposure to risk factors), experimental statistics regarding occupational diseases. Since the volume of data is very large, for the presentation of the different indicators we ordered the countries according to the annual average level, then we kept only the countries with the lowest values, as well as the highest values. To these we added the values for Romania and the neighboring countries Bulgaria and Hungary. Finally, using comparable values (rates or absolute values reported to the population of each country) we tried to build a ranking of the countries that make up the European Union.
