Abstract

In the context of competitive economy, the growth and economic development of a country is based on capitalizing on competitive advantages, on resources and competencies and, last but not least, on research and innovation. In this context, innovative clusters represent a successful solution because they offer a combination of entrepreneurial drive, strong ties between companies and institutions and innovative activities. At EU level, innovative clusters are considered to be the "engine" of economic development and innovation, these representing a framework conducive to business development, collaboration between companies, institutions of higher education and research, suppliers, customers and competitors located within the same geographical area.
