Abstract

In this paper we conducted a scan of the actual situation of SMEs in Romania supported by a series of statistical tables and graphs that allow formulating a clear opinions on this sector. Given major attention, for a long good time, this sector is due to the fact that in developing countries SMEs play an important role. The financial crisis has affected small and medium enterprises due to lack of financial power. However, compared to the large companies, SMEs represents the advantage that they can afford to be more flexible, implement new services and launch new products. The SMEs can make decisions more easily and thus become more effective. The paper carried an X-ray update of the SME sector in Romania, being used in this official statistics nationally (NTC, INS, MFP) or landmarks from analyzes conducted internationally (World Bank, OECD) and national (Post Privatisation Federation annual reports). Regarding the tools used in the study, although combined quantitative and qualitative methods, most of them are quantitative, collection, processing and interpretation of statistical data.
